Navigating Eating Disorders When You Are Not an Eating Disorder Dietitian
NAVIGATING EATING DISORDERS WHEN YOU ARE NOT AN EATING DISORDER DIETITIAN
Eating disorders, disordered eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns present to dietitian offices every day whether or not the dietitian identifies as an eating disorder professional. Unfortunately, due to a lack of training, many dietitians feel incompetent and even scared to treat people in fear of making it worse. This presentation is tailored for dietitians seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills in nutrition therapy for eating disorders so they can feel confident assessing and providing basic nutrition strategies while also knowing when to refer out.

This session will cover comprehensive tools for the assessment of eating behaviors and nutritional needs, developing personalized nutrition plans, integrating nutrition care for eating disorders, and client education topics to engage and improve readiness for change. Gain practical insights and evidence-based approaches to support individuals on their journey to recovery that goes beyond basic meal planning.

Take advantage of this opportunity to deepen your expertise and make a meaningful impact in the lives of people with eating disorders.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Recognize red flags associated with eating disorders, including behavioral, physical, and psychological indicators.

  • Explore the different assessment tools and methodologies used in evaluating the nutritional status and dietary behaviors of individuals with eating disorders.

  • Evaluate and differentiate the potential benefits and limitations of different dietary approaches in the context of eating disorder treatment.

  • Apply evidence-based nutrition interventions to address eating disorders' physiological, psychological, and nutritional aspects.
