NEUTRACEUTICALS IN ONCOLOGY
Neutraceuticals are a huge industry and an area that we are are learning more each day. Can we get therapeutic amounts of these neutraceuticals in our food? If we are considering supplements, are they safe? Which form(s) provide the greatest bioavailability? This webinar will discuss some common neutraceuticals, including curcumin, sulforaphane, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, and green tea. Using evidence-based practice, we will provide practical information that you can use to apply in your daily practice.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • List five or more categories of neutraceuticals.


  • Explain the value of the omega-6:omega-3 fatty acid ratio.


  • List the types of curcumin supplements that are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation formulas.


  • Explain three or more mechanisms how EGCG may work with chemotherapeutic agents to enhance anti tumor efficacy.


  • Describe the role of myrosinase in regards to sulforaphane.

Natalie Ledesma

With over 26 years of experience as a registered dietitian nutritionist, Natalie is a well-seasoned practitioner. A board-certified specialist in oncology nutrition, Natalie is the founding dietitian for the nutrition program at the University of California, San Francisco Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and is the clinical nutrition specialist at Smith Integrative Oncology in San Francisco. On a daily basis, she works with patients through her integrative & functional nutrition private practice. Natalie provides nutrition counseling and frequently presents nationally on various cancer and integrative health focused nutrition topics. She has taught college courses and cooking classes, and has been extensively involved in community outreach.

Natalie is highly regarded in her industry and is often sought out for her expert opinion. She has been interviewed by The New York Times, NBC, Fortune magazine, Cure magazine, MAMM magazine, Runner’s World, and the San Francisco Chronicle.
