Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth SIBO
SIBO SOLUTIONS: IDENTIFICATION, MANAGEMENT AND PREVENTION
Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth, or SIBO, is a serious condition resulting from excess bacteria in the small intestine. Patients with SIBO have chronic intestinal symptoms such as gas, bloating and malabsorption that negatively affects quality of life including both physiologic and mental health. A strong but ill-defined association exists between SIBO and common functional GI disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Attendees will learn how to identify SIBO, options for treatment and the impact of diet and lifestyle on treatment outcomes and recurrence.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
  • Define Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO).

  • Identify risk factors, clinical presentation and symptoms of SIBO.

  • Discuss treatment options and supportive scientific evidence for intervention including pharmacologic, dietary and herbal therapies.

  • Review implementation and monitoring of the nutrition prescription.

  • Identify patient and clinician resources.
