NUTRITIONAL BIOCHEMISTRY REVIEW: DIABETES
This webinar is perfect for the Registered Dietitian or NDTR who has been away from the classroom and wants to BRUSH UP on Nutritional Biochemistry, specifically focusing on Diabetes. It’s also a great review for RD-eligible participants who would like to review for their upcoming RD exam. We will review normal uptake and use of glucose by the cells, with a close look at the hormones involved, and then describe what happens at the cellular level with the various forms of Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Participants will be able to describe the differences between Type I DM, Type II DM, Gestational DM (GDM), and pre-diabetes,and understand the diagnostic criteria and treatment approaches for each.
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
- Explain normal carbohydrate uptake by cells.
- Describe the hormones involved in carbohydrate regulation.
- Describe the differences and similarities of the various types of DM.
- Describe the diagnostic criteria for Type I DM, II DM, GDM, and pre-diabetes.
- Become familiar with treatment options for each type.
